it's been so long

and I have so much to say, but as per the last couple of weeks, barely any time. I'm just taking a break right now from sewing the top to a wedding quilt for my good friend, who's staggette I went to this past weekend in Whistler. Lets just say I'm much more relaxed, but a lot more tired.

We had such a great time. My friends other friends are all really wonderful people, and the whole weekend was a full-on bonding experience. Not once was there a hint of tension or anything close to it (until the bride's twin sister had a little snit just before she left, but whatever).
The 7 of us arrived on Friday night to my other friend's parent's "cabin". HA. A 5 bedroom, 3 full bathroom, (2 hotwater tanks), a HUGE great room, workroom, and big ass kitchen Log Cabin. Man it was gorgeous. We hung out, drank (we must have thought we were each 300 lb men with the amount of booze we brought up) and chatted. Saturday we made brunch together, hung out on the back deck, listened to music, went to the nearby lake to suntan and swim, came back to BBQ (again, we must have thought we were 300lb men - we had enough meat to feed twice the amount of us) and have martinis and bellinis. YUM. Apple martinis and peach bellinis are now my favs. We then went to "Buffalo Bills" with the bride dressed in a hot pink t-shirt with "Bride to be" written across the front, a pink cowboy hat with a tiara on it, and a tulle attached to the back, and armed with a baggie of stuff she had to sell. She was the best lookin bride there. (there were at least 5 other staggettes, and 3 or 4 stags) we basically danced nonstop for 4 hours! We had so much fun together.

And, at the end of the night, as we're standing around chatting, out of the corner of my eye I see this guy staring at me. Weird, I'm thinking, I didn't notice him earlier, why is he staring at me? I turn and look, and lo and behold, it's my tenth grade boyfriend! (who later was just a really good friend) He comes over to chat, and says two other guys the bride and I went to junior/senior high school with are also there. One of the other ones, my mom actually babysat when we were in kindergarten - and is getting married the same day as the bride I was with!

The third, well, the third was my high school crush. You know, we all have them. That one boy that you were mad over, and sometimes you thought he liked you, sometimes you were really good friends, and sometimes you wanted to kill him. We became really good friends in grade 8, then on and off until sometime in my early twenties, I was in love with him. There were definitely a few times that I thought we'd almost kissed, but I wasn't sure . . .
Anyway, he and I were chatting, and he said it was funny we'd run into each other cause the other two were just asking him if we'd ever "hooked up" People, this is years ago. I gradded in 91 for Pete's sake! Anyhew, he went on to say that while he very much had wanted to "hook up" he'd never had the nerve to make the first move, and they wouldn't believe him that we'd never kissed. He said he'd told them we'd come close to kissing a couple of times, but never actually had.

Why am I writing all of this? Well, because I think I waited from the time I was 13 until I was probably 25 to hear those words from him. This many years later, they still felt good. We all need to have our ego stroked once in a while. It took us growing up, and me being happily married for him to admit it!! Men. His ego was far to big to have ever admitted any of it when we were younger. So that just was an extra little bonus to my already good weekend.

We didn't get to bed until about 5, and we were all up by 10 - needless to say, the most we did on sunday was try to eat. And try to accomplish a few weddingy things. Uh, all I can say is that it is incredibly difficult to tie puny little bows when you can't see straight.

Hope you are all doing well, and I will come to visit soon. I have been lurking, but haven't had the time to comment.
